What changed for seniors
Since October 2024, Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY covers ALL citizens aged 70 and above — the Ayushman Vay Vandana card — with no income or category condition. Seniors in families already covered by PM-JAY get an additional ₹5 lakh top-up exclusively for the 70+ members; seniors in families outside PM-JAY get their own ₹5 lakh cover.
How to make the card
- Open beneficiary.nha.gov.in (or the Ayushman app) and log in with the senior's mobile number.
- Search by Aadhaar — age is taken from the Aadhaar date of birth, so it must show 70+.
- Complete eKYC: Aadhaar OTP if the mobile is linked, otherwise face authentication in the app works well for seniors.
- The card is approved and downloadable, usually the same day.
If the Aadhaar age is wrong
The most common blocker is a date of birth on Aadhaar that shows the senior as under 70. That needs an Aadhaar DOB correction first (with a birth certificate, school record or passport), and then the Vay Vandana enrolment goes through. A NeedUp operator can handle both steps in one request.
