Pensioners of central and state governments, defence, railways, banks and EPFO, and family pensioners. Families often do it for elderly parents who cannot go to the bank.
Which documents are required for a life certificate?
- Aadhaar number of the pensioner
- Mobile number (an OTP comes on it)
- PPO (Pension Payment Order) number
- Pension bank account number
- Name of the pension sanctioning office and the bank or office that pays the pension
How much does a life certificate cost?

How to apply for a life certificate online with NeedUp
- 1Start a "Life Certificate" request on NeedUp and tell the operator who pays the pension (bank, treasury, EPFO, defence).
- 2Install the Aadhaar Face RD app and the Jeevan Pramaan Face App on an Android phone. The operator sends the links.
- 3Enter the Aadhaar number, mobile number and email of the person operating the phone, and verify the OTP.
- 4Enter the pensioner's details: Aadhaar, PPO number, bank account and pension office.
- 5Scan the pensioner's face in good light. The Pramaan ID comes by SMS.
- 6The operator checks on the Jeevan Pramaan site that the certificate was accepted.
When is the life certificate due in 2026?
For central government pensioners it is due every November. Pensioners aged 80 or above get extra time and can submit from 1 October. Last year the government ran its nationwide Digital Life Certificate campaign from 1 to 30 November. Pensioners under EPFO (EPS-95) can submit at any time of the year, and it stays valid for one year from that date. If you are not sure which rule applies, ask the bank or office that pays your pension.

What is the last date for the life certificate for pensioners?
